The Sheridan City Council approved a $3.5 million grant application through the State Land and Investment Board at their meeting Monday night. The grant would help cover costs to pay for Federally mandated upgrades to both the Sheridan and Big Goose Water Treatment plants to guard against cryptosporidium and giardia.

City of Sheridan Public Works Director Nic Bateson says that they are.

Bateson says that the City is doing everything necessary to stay on the schedule that was set forth by the Feds.

Bateson says that along with preventative upgrades to safeguard against the bacteria, there are other substantial upgrades that are planned as well.

While there is no total cost of the project as of yet, estimates indicate that it could be upwards of $7 million. The cryptosporidium upgrades to both treatment plants need to be completed by 2013.
