City Budget Basics: Police/Fire Departments

The City of Sheridan held the first of a series of budget basics meetings Monday.

The Police and Fire departments were up first, as Police Chief Richard Adriaens began by stating that of their $3 million general fund budget, about 85% of that goes to employee wages and benefits.

Adriaens also spoke on where the money generated from the optional 1% sales tax goes.

Sheridan Fire Rescue Fire Chief Patrick Reitz pointed out that all of the emergency services vehicles are lease purchase.

Reitz also said that 85% of their budget goes toward personnel. Chief Adriaens discussed how homeland security grants have helped in recent years.

The City's next budget basics meeting will include a report from Treasurer Jennifer Reed and Clerk Scott Badley.
