City Begins Work on Abandoned Ditches

City Works Director Les Hook told the city council at their last meeting that he is beginning to work on abandoned ditches within the city limits.
He will be identifying them, mapping them and looking into any possible water rights the city may be entitled to by having them declared abandoned.

Some of the water rights, if the ditches have been dormant for five years, may be lost altogether, according to Hook.

He explained that the city will eventually need to get a surveyor on board because when they petition the state to abandone these ditches they will want maps and legal descriptions of them. There will be some costs to the city involved at that point, according to Hook.

Councilman Russ Humphrey asked about the warranty on the
sports fields complex.

Hook also reported that the city has received the permit to begin construction on the south water line project to replace the existing asbestos line.
The easements are currently being acquired and will need to be in place before the project can go to bid.
