Cindy Hill Comments on Ed. Dept's Lack of Usable Data

On Tuesday morning's edition of Public Pulse, State Superintendent of Public Instruction, Cindy Hill, shared her thoughts regarding the Wyoming Department of Education's inability to provide usable data to the legislature. Sheridan Media's Chris Foy has the story.

Hill says since she came into office two years ago, data has been reliably and consistently been delivered to legislators during their general session. She says she blames this on the gradual dismantling of the data management team.

Interim Director of the state education department, Jim Rose, said in a letter to the Joint Education Committee last week the department was unable to provide certain types of data related to staffing - for the first time in many years. Hill says this is unacceptable.

Additionally, she says even more employees in data management were transferred outside the education department and it was difficult to fill two open positions given the likelihood prospective employees would be transferred.

Hill says she expects more problems to surface if the Wyoming Department of Education does not have clear leadership.
