Child Abuse Prevention Group to Close

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) - A Wyoming nonprofit aimed at preventing child abuse is closing after losing a $95,000 grant, roughly half of the organization's entire budget.

Stacey Obrecht of the Prevent Child Abuse Wyoming board of directors says the group's doors will close Thursday. Obrecht says loss of the Wyoming Children's Trust Fund grant for next year was exacerbated by hard economic times, which have made it difficult for nonprofits to attract donors.

The group, which estimated in 2008 that Wyoming experiences 800 substantiated cases of child abuse per year, also lost support from the United Way of Laramie County earlier this year.
