Cheney to Enzi: Renounce Health Premium Subsidies

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) - Liz Cheney is calling on Sen. Mike Enzi to renounce federal assistance for congressmen and their staff to buy health insurance under health-care reform. Cheney has barely mentioned Enzi by name since announcing last month she's running against him in the Republican primary a year from now.

On Tuesday, she called proposed premium subsidies for Congress hypocritical. The 2010 health-care reform law requires congressmen and their staff to drop their federal health insurance. Instead, they would participate in health insurance marketplaces like those who would become insured under the new law. Last week, the agency overseeing the federal employee health plan proposed to continue reimbursing 75 percent of the premiums paid by congressmen and their staff. An Enzi spokesman says Enzi opposes the measure and seeks to repeal health-care reform.
