Checklist Helps Residents Recycle for Holidays

The city of Sheridan has a holiday checklist for Sheridan residents who want to recycle. Sheridan Media reporter Pat Blair has details.

Gift and shoe boxes, paper and tissue paper, holiday cards, plain wrapping paper and tin cans can be recycled. Bubble wrap, ribbons, tree decorations, shiny or foil wrapping paper and Christmas tree ornaments can't. Christmas trees can be recycled, but not in the curbside containers. Those are a few items on Sheridan's curbside recycling checklist for the holidays.

Charles Martineau at the city's recycling center said the city now has an app to help people with their curbside recycling.

He said foam peanuts can be taken to the UPS Store or Pack N Mail, where those items will be put back into service as packing materials. Other items that can't be recycled include sticky gift labels and laminated or coated gift bags, cellophane and Christmas lights. He said glass can be recycled, but the city asks that people don't put glass in the curbside recycling bins.

He added the city will also accept real Christmas trees, but only if they're taken to the city landfill or a dropsite. The city doesn't have a recycling market for artificial Christmas trees.
