A change order in the contract for modular buildings at Sagebrush Elementary School could add as much as $150,000 to the costs for the buildings.

However, Mathers Heuck, who's the facilities director for Sheridan County School District 2, said he thinks the estimate is a bit high and the actual added cost won't be that much.

Heuck outlined the change order during a special meeting of District 2 trustees Monday. He said trustees awarded the bid for the modular buildings at their last regular board meeting for just over $408,000.

Heuck said the state of Wyoming estimated the modulars would cost about half a million dollars.

He said the district is still way better off than the first time it sought bids for the modulars and costs came in at almost $900,000. He said this piece of the Sagebrush project is also fully reimbursable by the state.

Five modulars will be placed at Sagebrush north of the school building on the playground area. Those will provide classrooms for the school's students for one trimester – about 55 to 60 days – while the Sagebrush building is undergoing remodeling.

Heuck said Sagebrush is about 40 years old, and the entire school is scheduled for remodeling. The work will start this summer, he said, and but it's scheduled in two phases that are expected to continue through the fall of 2020.
