Staff with the City of Sheridan have been negotiating with representatives with CenturyLink for the past six months on the development of a franchise agreement between the two entities.

City Utilities Director Dan Roberts said that the revenue generated from franchise agreements goes into a fund specifically for public improvements.

Roberts said that the current agreement with CenturyLink is not established in an ordinance and dates back to 1956, when the company was known as Ma Bell.

Roberts said that with the 3-percent fee from the franchise agreement that’s being proposed, the City anticipates about $16,000 a year in revenue. The City Council will consider first reading of an ordinance establishing the agreement at their next regularly scheduled meeting.
