Cemetery District Makes Offer For New Trail

The Johnson County Cemetery District has approached the City of Buffalo about donating land to construct a trail in exchange for water taps from the city.

Cemetery District Vice-President Butch Buell and Buffalo Trails Board Chair Ed Von Holst brought the idea before Buffalo's City Council this week.

Von Holst explained that the Proposed trail would link Buffalo's existing trail system, beginning at Cemetery Road.

Buell further explained that the Cemetery District owns two pieces of property that they are offering to donate to the city for the new trail to be built on.
In exchange, the cemetery district would like the city to provide them with two water taps on existing city-owned water lines near Willow Grove Cemetery so the district can construct restrooms at the cemetery.

The city council said they were interested in pursuing the idea, but want time to discuss the issue with City Works Director Les Hook and City Attorney Ben Kirven.

No decision was made at the meeting, but the idea will be discussed and brought up in a future council meeting.
