Celebrate the Arts is Underway

The kick-off of the 9th annual Celebrate the Arts Festival began Thursday evening at the Historic Sheridan Inn with close to 150 people attending.  The night started with the introduction of the 20 new on-loan sculptures and the announcement of the four newest acquisitions for the permanent collection found around town.

City of Sheridan Public Arts Committee Chair Fachon Wilson knows what art does for our community.

The night continued with a “quick draw” as local artists showed off their talents by completing a work of art in one hour.  The art was then auctioned off, with half going back to the artist and the other half going to the Celebrate the Arts committee to ready for next year’s activities.

June is Celebrate the Arts month and Director of the Sheridan Artists’ Guild, Karen Myers emphasized the importance of art.

Activities continue today with the Sheridan Media Benefit Golf Tournament, which supports the purchase of permanent sculptures. Downtown, today and tomorrow, over 20 local artists will be in stores or on the sidewalks demonstrating their skills and talents. There are now 37 permanent sculptures in the city’s collection.
