Candidates for state, county and Sheridan city offices had a chance to talk about themselves and why they're running for office during a meet-and-greet Wednesday night at the Eagles Aerie on Main Street in Sheridan.

The event started with a three-minute talk by each of the 18 candidates in attendance, followed by a chance for people to visit one-on-one with candidates of their choice.

Mona Hansen, who was the Eagles' timekeeper and introduced each of the candidates, said about 60 people were present. She explained the reason for the event.

She said all of the candidates were invited who are in the races for Wyoming's House of Representatives, Sheridan County commission, the five candidates for Sheridan mayor and four candidates for Sheridan city council. Two county commission candidates and two candidates for the state House were unable to attend.

Among candidates present was Val Burgess, running unopposed on the Democratic ticket for House District 30.

Burgess won't face opposition until the November general elections. Two Republicans are vying for House District 30. Gail Symons attended the Eagles' event, but incumbent Mark Jennings was one of the candidates who wasn't there. The primary elections are on Aug. 16.
