An annual tradition in Buffalo, the Monster March, will be happening this Wednesday, Halloween afternoon, in downtown Buffalo.

The event is sponsored by the Buffalo Chamber of Commerce, and 50 to 60 local businesses in town will participate in handing out goodies and treats to the 800 to 900 goblins, monsters, princesses and other similarly-costumed kids that will parade up and down Main Street that afternoon.

Angela Jarvis and Rachel McCoughey, with the Buffalo Chamber of Commerce, said the Monster March began as a safe alternative to door-to-door Trick or Treating although it isn't just for kids, but adults as well.

They explain.

Wednesday the lineup will start at the Jim Gatchell Museum, and at 4pm the Monsters will march through the courthouse, down the stairs to City Hall, then south along the west side of Main Street to Angus Street, then cross Main and come back up the east side of Main Street to the Chamber of Commerce.

This year the Buffalo Police Department will be completely shutting down Main Street from Fort Street to Angus Street to ensure everyone's safety.
