Buffalo Police Chief Jason Carder reported to the city council Tuesday night that his department will begin a new program within the next month similar to the Amber Alert System, but with some significant differences that will help the small department in activating it.
He explains how the system will work.
A Child Is Missing Alert Program is not just for missing children, but also for elderly persons and vulnerable adults. The program will work with community information stored with the local Code Red Notification System, and people can sign up on the city or county websites listed at the end of this story.
Buffalo is one of six agencies in the state that will be using the program, and the smallest, Carder said. The department will be adding information to their website for people to get to know the system better.
