Buffalo Named #2 Top Western Town For 2018

Buffalo has been named as the #2 Top Western Town for 2018, just behind Abilene, Kansas who picked up the top honor.
That is according to True West magazine, who made the announcement in a recent news release.

The towns, along with the others on the list, will be featured in the February, 2018 issue, which hit the news stands on December 26th.
Some of Buffalo's history that impacted the decision to include the town on the list are the Johnson County Cattle War; the Jim Gatchell Memorial Museum and its collection of local and regional history; Owen Wister, his Novel The Virginian, and the Occidental Hotel; and area historic sites such as the TA Ranch and Fort Phil Kearny.

True West Executive Editor Bob Boze Bell said in the release, “Even today, Buffalo is an Old West town. It lives in the events, the buildings, the collections that are visited by thousands of people every year. There’s no question that Buffalo is a Top True Western Town.”

This is the thirteenth year True West has presented this annual award. Editors base their selection on criteria demonstrating how each town has preserved its history through old buildings, museums and other institutions, events, and promotions of historic resources.
