Buffalo Council: No Open Containers At Ball Fields

The Buffalo City Council, at the request of Police Sgt. Garth Nicholas, upheld a ban on open containers at the softball/baseball fields at Centennial Park.

The city, in years past, had allowed alcoholic beverages to be consumed at adult-league softball games in the park, as long as the containers were kept in the dugout areas and not out in plain sight.

Last year, according to Nicholas, the YMCA changed their policy on the open containers at games. He asked for direction from the council.

The council decided to disallow open containers in the open at Centennial Park, saying they would not be allowed at the new Sports Fields Complex when completed next year, saying users need to begin the adjustment to a “dry” complex now.

Permits for alcohol consumption at the sports fields complex can be applied for, like at any other city park, the council decided.
