Justin Gerard was chosen by the Buffalo City Council to man the empty seat left when Bruce Hepp passed away suddenly earlier this year.

At their last regular meeting of 2011 Tuesday evening, Councilman Russ Humphrey nominated Mike Johnson for the council seat, but the nomination died due to a lack of second.

Councilman Stan Lakin then nominated Gerard and that motion was seconded by Bill Hawley. Gerard was approved on a 3-1 vote of the council. The vote prompted this exchange between Humphrey and the rest of the council.

Gerard said after the meeting he was impressed that the council decided to pick someone from his generation for the seat, and he explained what he hopes to accomplish as a city councilman.

Gerard will be sworn into office at the January 3, 2012 council meeting.
