A Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Buffalo Police Department and the Johnson County Sheriff's Office was approved by the city council at their Tuesday meeting.

The MOU was drafted by Police Chief Jason Carder and Sheriff Rod Odenbach and brought before the council for their consideration.

Chief Carder and Sheriff Odenbach said the MOU outlines the law enforcement agencies' agreement for extraterritorial law enforcement between them, and explained what the MOU will do.

The MOU was drafted with the help of City Attorney Ben Kirven and County Deputy Attorney Barry Crago.

The agreement will also pertain to Emergency Medical Services (EMS) calls as well, according to Carder and Odenbach.

Johnson County's Commissioners approved the MOU at their meeting Tuesday, as did the Buffalo City Council.
