Buffalo Council Approves Bulletproof Vest Grant

Buffalo Police Chief Jason Carder brought a request before the city council at their Tuesday meeting to accept the 2015 Bulletproof Vest Partnership Grant.

The grant, in the amount of just over $3,450 will help the department purchase new bulletproof vests for officers in need of replacing their vests in their normal rotational life of the ones now in use.

The money from the grant will cover approximately one-third of the costs to replace the vests, according to Carder.

The city council approved the request to accept the grant.

Carder reported that the BPD will be assisting with this weekend's Oktoberfest celebration in downtown Buffalo, with officers performing traffic control duties for the Tour de Lure bicycle race and on foot patrol during the event itself.

Carder also reported the department will be assisting with the Drug Take-Back event scheduled for Saturday, September 26th.
