Wednesday's Sheridan City Council budget work session dealt with the water and sewer division of the Utilities Department. The proposed budget for water and sewer is $4.9 million, which is a 2% reduction from last year's budget.

City Utilities Director Dan Miller says that the City has seen a significant drop in revenue from plant investment fees over the last few years.

There was also some discussion of how the City will fund the government mandated upgrades on cryptosporidium at the Big Goose Water Treatment Plant and the Sheridan Water Treatment Plant. Initial estimates of the project were $4 million; however, that number is now at $5.5 million.

The upgrades to both treatment plants need to be done by 2013.

Mayor Dave Kinskey asked about the likelihood of the EPA granting the City an extension on the project. Miller responded by saying that recent correspondence with the EPA suggests that an extension isn't in the cards.
