Fundraiser Brings Fresh Water to Kenya

A breakfast fundraiser was held Saturday morning at the First Presbyterian Church to raise money to drill a well to provide clean water in a town in Kenya. Coordinator Lydiah Nganga is from Kenya and said clean water is essential.

She explained that good, clean underground water from deep wells is important for disease control, but also for keeping girls in school.

Walking 10 miles one way to fetch water doesn’t leave time for school. But Nganga said a good education is becoming vital.

Barnaby Duncan’s daughter served in Kenya for two years with the Peace Corps. On a visit he saw first hand what fresh water can mean to a village.

Drilling for the new well is planned to begin in 2017.
