Acting Buffalo Police Chief Jason Carder reported to the Buffalo City Council last week on a number of topics, including deer harvesting, an officer stepping down, and the need for a new animal control officer.

Carder began by telling the council that 35 deer have been harvested so far in the city limits, and none have been found to have CWD, or chronic wasting disease.

Officers will continue harvesting deer as weather permits between now and Christmas, or until the quota of 65 is met. Meat from the deer will be donated to the local food bank.

Also, Sergeant Dan Fraley will be stepping down as a police officer, according to Carder, and he asked the council for permission to send an employee to the academy for training.

Carder also asked for permission to begin the search for a new ACO immediately.

Carder added that the position will be advertised and a prospective candidate chosen soon.
