BPD Chief: Extra Officers For Upcoming Holiday Events

An extra police presence will be seen downtown in the coming weeks for various events during the Holiday season.

Buffalo Police Chief Jason Carder gave his report to the city council this week, telling them he will have five extra officers on duty this Saturday for the Light Up Buffalo celebration downtown. He will have all officers on duty the following Saturday, December 1st during the chili feed and Christmas Parade.

Carder also updated the council on Officer Brice Johnson, who has completed Officer Basic Training at the academy in Douglas. Johnson will continue his training within the Buffalo Police Department with Field Training Officer Alan Kiefer. He is expected to train with Kiefer for approximately two months, according to Carder.

The BPD had 108 third graders attend their recent D.A.R.E. pizza party, which is a huge turnout he said.

The deer harvesting program will continue until just before Christmas, after taking a hiatus this week for Thanksgiving. The first tests from the Game and Fish came back clean for Chronic Wasting Disease, and the first shipments of meat were then delivered to the local food pantry for distribution.
