In spite of overcast skies and wind, people came out to the block party at Sheridan College Saturday.

Held in the Bruce Hoffman Golden Dome parking lot, the event included inflatables and other family-oriented activities. The party is one of the largest events held in observance of Whitney Days, according to Dr. Leah Barrett, who's one of the college's vice presidents.

She said activities both public and for students and faculty only have been happening this past week, but Saturday was the big day.

Dr. Barrett said this is the third year for Whitney Days, which were created to honor the life and legacy of E.A. Whitney. Whitney created the first charitable trust for educational purposes in Wyoming through his estate.

The Whitney Foundation was established in 1927, 10 years after his death.

Barrett said in addition to events open to the public, there was also a service project conducted on campus and through partnership with The Food Group to collect food, toiletries and winter clothing to benefit both The Food Group and the college's own Hope Closet.

The Hope Closet provides for students at Sheridan College.
