Sunday, on the front steps of Holy Name Catholic Church, close to fifty pet owners gathered as Father Jim Heiser blessed the animals. On October 4th, Catholics celebrate the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi and Father Jim explains.

A chorus of canine 'hallelujahs' and kitty 'amens' amongst the bird twitters echoed Father Jim's prayers.

He knows, first hand, the bond that forms between animal and owner.

Robin Humphrey brought Crystal and Charlie, her two dogs which are rescued dogs. She said they've had a tough life and hopes the blessing will make their life...a whole lot better. She tells us what her dogs mean to her.

St. Francis is known as the patron saint for animals and the environment.
