Blackout Cancer Week at BHS

Blackout Cancer Week at BHS

Buffalo High School's Student Council is holding their second annual fundraiser called Blackout Cancer, to benefit Johnson County residents fighting cancer. Joyce Hall, Student Council Advisor, explains what the week is about.

Those interested can sponsor a student or an activity at BHS for a small fee, which will go toward the funds raised by the student council during the week.

All proceeds raised will go to the Community Resource Center to be distributed.

There is still time to sponsor, but sponsorships must be in by Thursday at noon to assure they make it into the programs for the weekend's activities.

Throughout the week the students will be addressing ways to cut risks of getting cancer (tobacco and alcohol use, obesity, sun exposure and a lack of physical activity). In other words, to Blackout Cancer.

During the weekend's full slate of activities at BHS, Hall was asked if anyone could donate to the cause if they hadn't chosen the sponsorships, but still wanted to help.

Hall said as of Tuesday, they had raised a little over $3,000, with a goal set at $5,000 this year.
