BHS Forensics Second At Rapid City Tournament

BHS Forensics Second At Rapid City Tournament

Last weekend, February 8th and 9th, the Buffalo High School Forensics team participated in the Rapid City Tournament hosted by Stevens High School.
Many of the students did very well, and the team took the Second Place Sweepstakes Trophy in the small school division.

In Drama, Kameesha Morris advanced to the final round and eventually finished in third place.
She also placed in her second event, Oratory, where she earned sixth place.

In Extemporaneous Speaking, both BHS competitors advanced to the final round. Mark Carranza placed third, and Cody Giles was able to sweep the final round with straight first place rankings, and brought home the first place trophy.

In Congressional Debate, three of the BHS contingent advanced to the final rounds. Kaleb Moseman was among the top speakers from both of his preliminary sessions, but was not able to place in finals. Teammates Heidi Hauck and Brianna Taylor did place, and earned the second and first place trophies respectively.

In Lincoln/Douglas Debate, the tournament ran two divisions, a novice and a varsity division. In Novice LD, two first year debaters from BHS did extremely well. Nicholas Henry placed third, and Mark Carranza advanced to finals where he earned the second place trophy.
In Varsity LD, both Brianna Taylor and Cody Giles had excellent records, which earned Taylor the third place spot, and once again Giles advanced to the final round. He was not able to defeat the very experienced debater from Sturgis, and he placed second overall.

“We have never been to the Stevens tournament before,” said Coach Walter Farwell. “The tournament was a real pleasure to attend, and everything went very well. Now we have a little break while we prepare for our home tournament that we are hosting at BHS on (February) 22nd and 23rd.”
