Bentonite Company Requests Letter Before Expanding

The Johnson County Commissioners, at their last meeting, approved a request from Black Hills Bentonite for a letter from the county assuring them the county has no zoning laws or regulations that the company may be in violation of with their bentonite mining operations.

The letter request is common, according to Jennifer Jones, Administrative Assistant to the Commission. She said the commissioners will usually handle two to three of these types of letters per year.

Commission Chair Delbert Eitel explained more about the Black Hills Bentonite request.

The commissioners voted to approve Chairman Eitel signing the letter and sending it on to Black Hills Bentonite.

Chairman Eitel abstained from the vote to avoid any conflict of interest.
