Bear Hunters In Northern Bighorns Are Done For The Season

The 2009 fall black bear season for black bear hunt areas one and two in the northern Bighorn Mountains is closed. The Wyoming Game and Fish Department ended the season on Wednesday. Hunters should check black bear regulations for specific boundaries.

The area closed because the fall harvest quota of three female black bears was reached. Black bear seasons close once the female harvest quota is reached or on closing day, whichever comes first. If the harvest quota had not been reached this season would have closed October 31.

Black bear hunters are reminded to check the status of their hunt areas before they hunt by calling the Black Bear Mortality Hotline. The hotline number is (800) 264-1280.
