Barrasso: Tax Cuts Benefit American Workers

U.S. Senator John Barrasso said Wednesday that more than 4 million Americans have received wages and other benefits because of tax cuts enacted through the Republican tax-relief laws passed in December.

In a speech on the Senate floor, Barrasso said every single Democrat in the Senate voted against the bill. He said the Democrats claimed that only rich people would benefit, and that businesses would never share their savings with the workers.

Barrasso said the American people know that the Democrats were wrong.

He said the very day the tax bill passed in Congress, AT&T announced that the company's workers were going to receive a bonus. The company announced that 200,000 employees would receive an extra $1,000 each, directly because of the tax relief law.

Barrasso said since then, over 500 companies, including many in Wyoming, have shared their tax savings with their workers. Barrasso said also since the tax law was passed, more than 100 utility companies across the country have cut their rates as a direct result of the tax law.

He said that's what happens when the law is changed so that Washington gets less, and taxpayers get to keep more.

Barrasso said companies also are now hiring more people. He said according to the Labor Department, there are now 6.7 million job openings across the country – which is an all-time high.
