U.S. Senator John Barrasso of Wyoming spoke on the Senate floor Wednesday about the need to pass common sense legislation that secures the border and reopens the government.

Barrasso said that the New Year brings with it new challenges, new opportunities and new faces to the 116th Congress. The Senator said that one of the immediate tasks is to secure the southern border and the other is to fund the government, adding that these goals are not mutually exclusive – we can and we must do both. Barrasso said that the key to breaking the current impasse is for both parties to work together.

Barrasso talked about the rise in illegal entries into the Country.

Barrasso closed his remarks on the Senate floor by urging his colleagues to start the New Year off on the right foot by by passing common-sense legislation that does secure the border, that does reopen the government and that protects the American people.
