Sheridan's Meadowlark Elementary School is one of only two in Wyoming to be designated a Blue Ribbon School this year, and that's a distinction that has to be earned, according to Wyoming Senator John Barrasso.

Barrasso congratulated Meadowlark students, teachers and staff during an assembly at the school Monday. This was the second time that Meadowlark has earned the Blue Ribbon distinction, which is a national award.

Barrasso said the designation is an indication of Sheridan's commitment to education and to young people.

Scott Stults, who's an assistant superintendent for Sheridan County School District 2, which operates Meadowlark, said all five of the district's elementary schools in Sheridan, and the junior high school, have been named Blue Ribbon schools. Sagebrush Elementary, in fact, received its second Blue Ribbon School designation last year.

Stults said the designation of Meadowlark as a national Blue Ribbon School is a very prestigious honor and a very well earned honor.
