Banner's Alton Miller Wins Country Showdown Competition

A veteran of the war in Iraq, Alton Miller came into Friday night's local round of the Texaco Country Showdown at the Best Western with heartfelt songs about his service to his country to earn first place in the talent show. Sheridan Media's Jim Schellinger announced the winner.

Miller's inspiration as an aspiring country music star comes largely from his experiences as a soldier, and he talked about the first song that he played Friday night, titled, Don't Land in Atlanta.

He says he has played his final song, The Man that Made the Medal, at several memorial services of fallen soldiers.

Miller advances to the state final competition August 5 at the Montana State fair in Great Falls where the winner will advance to one of five regional finals. A $100,000 grand prize goes to the winner of the national final this fall.
