Banner Man Accused Of Multiple Burglaries Appears In Court

42-year-old Jess Long of Banner made his initial appearance in Sheridan County Circuit Court on Monday. Long is charged with 4 counts of burglary and one count of criminal entry. Burglary is a felony in Wyoming.

Long allegedly broke into 4 residences since last June to acquire prescription drugs. He is accused of taking oxycodone and hydrocodone pills from at least three homes.

Judge John Sampson said he did not believe the defendant was a flight risk, but had serious concerns about a possible drug habit that could cause Long commit more crimes if released and set a $10,000 cash only bond. Long could be sentenced to 10 years in prison on each burglary count if convicted.

Also appearing in court were 19-year-old Jenna Hein of Sheridan and 21-year-old Casey Calkins of Colorado. The pair were located after dark in the daylight-use-only area around Mavrakis Pond on Saturday evening. A subsequent search of the vehicle produced several ounces of what appeared to be marijuana and cocaine. Both face two counts of possession of a controlled substance with the intent to deliver. Judge Sampson told the defendants they have been charged with a very serious crime and set bond at $10,000 cash, each.

The Court will schedule preliminary hearings for Long, Hein, and Calkins in the next 10 days.
