Balow Welcomes Action on Science Standards

State Superintendent of Public Instruction Jillian Balow said she's pleased with the 2015 Legislature's action on next-generation science standards.

A footnote in last year's budget bill stopped the board of education from looking at considering the next-generation standards to Wyoming public schools. This year's Legislature reversed that decision.

In a recent interview on Sheridan Media's Public Pulse morning talk show, the state education superintendent said she spoke in favor of this to legislators during their session.

She said the 2015 Legislature's action means that the state board of education can look at not just science standards but all education standards in a meaningful way.

This is the first year in office for the new head of Wyoming's public education. She was sworn in on Jan. 5 and noted that she hit the ground running as this year's legislative session convened on Jan. 13.
