With storms moving in and winds inconsistent, Saturday’s Balloon the Big Horns event at the Big Horn Equestrian Center was canceled.

Ginney Rieger, who headed up the event, said the weather was too chancy to launch balloons Saturday morning, although – weather permitting – Saturday night’s balloon glow would still be on and would start at 7 p.m.

In place of the balloon launch Saturday morning, pilots of the balloons remained available to talk to spectators about hot air balloons and ballooning, and the Big Horn field was opened to kite-flying.

Wyoming Operation Lifesavers, part of a national organization of volunteers dedicated to keeping people from being killed by trains, donated about 1,000 kites to children on hand for Saturday’s event.
