Officers with the Sheridan Police Department responded to a report Tuesday afternoon of a male individual damaging property at the Best Western Sheridan Center on Main Street.

Upon arrival on scene, a SPD officer encountered 30-year-old Nicholas Preslar after he was pointed out by several eyewitnesses who saw him break the glass out of the front door of the hotel.

According to a news release from the SPD, Preslar exited the hotel and was contacted by the police in the 500 block of North Main Street. Preslar did not comply with verbal commands to stop and became combative with an officer, resulting in a physical altercation between the officer and Preslar. With the assistance of a couple of good samaritans and other responding officers and Sheridan County Sheriff’s deputies, Preslar was taken into custody shortly after the fight with the officer.

Preslar was charged with interference with a peace officer, resulting in bodily injury to the peace officer, which is a felony. He was also charged with property destruction for breaking the glass in front door of the Best Western, breaking a light fixture and damaging drywall inside the hotel. One SPD officer was transported to Sheridan Memorial Hospital and treated and later released for minor injuries sustained in the altercation with Preslar.
