Restoration work on areas of Little Goose and Big Goose Creeks in Sheridan will begin soon, thanks in part to a project partnership agreement between the Army Corps of Engineers and the City of Sheridan. Sheridan Media’s Ron Richter has the details.

Representatives with the Army Corps of Engineers and the City of Sheridan gathered at Emerson Park Tuesday for a ceremonial project partnership agreement signing. The project, a section 1135 environmental restoration project, will span approximately 4 miles of various sections of both Little Goose and Big Goose Creeks in Sheridan. Greg Johnson with the Omaha District of the US Army Corps of Engineers explains what an 1135 environmental restoration project is.

Johnson talks about the specific work that will be done on Little Goose Creek near Emerson Park.

Johnson said that upstream, near the downtown area, Little Goose will undergo some realignment.

Johnson said there is some work planned on Big Goose near the Lewis Street Bridge.

In 2014 the City entered into a cost sharing agreement with the Army Corps for a feasibility study that was finished last year. Johnson said the project was approved to enter into the design and construction phase, with the actual work expected to start sometime next year.
