American Legion post buys school building for $200K

CASPER, Wyo. (AP) — The Natrona County School District has sold a former North Casper elementary school to an American Legion post for $200,000.

KTWO-AM reports the district's board of trustees accepted the bid from the American Legion George W. Vroman Post 2 at its Monday meeting.

Trustee Dave Applegate says the bid was below appraised value, but more than the $85,000 bid that the board received from Poor Boys Holdings, LLC, which is managed in part by former Poor Boys Steakhouse owner and state Rep. Pat Sweeney.

Applegate says the sale was also justified by the high annual costs of maintaining the empty building.

The district's Executive Director of Human Resources Michael Jennings says the appraised value for the 35,000-square-foot (3,252-square meter) property was $326,000.
