Affordable Housing Heads List of Concerns

The affordability of housing in Sheridan County topped the list of concerns by those who attended all four of the meetings held earlier this week on Sheridan County's comprehensive plan.

County Planner Mark Reid:

Reid and Joanne Garnett, who's a partner with Orion Planning and Design, said close to 100 people attended at least one of the four meetings that started the process of updating the county's 2008 comprehensive plan. Orion is the consulting firm working with Sheridan County on the update.

In addition to being asked their concerns about Sheridan County, people attending the meeting were also asked what they love about the county. Garnett said open spaces topped that list.

Reid said the next significant step in the plan update is a meeting of the citizens advisory committee, which will compile the information from the public meetings. He said work is currently being done to schedule the committee's first meeting.

Garnett said there also will be additional public meetings in late winter – sometime after the first of the year – and in late spring. She said people can also make comments on the comprehensive plan website and Facebook pages.
