8 Weekend Egg Hunts Planned

Easter egg season opens this weekend in Sheridan County.

For hunters ages 1-9 the first event will take place at Westview Healthcare Center at 2:30 Friday afternoon.

On Saturday, the Sheridan Recreation District egg hunts at Thorne-Rider Park for ages 0-8 starts at 10 a.m. Particpants are encouraged to show up a few minutes early, because this hunt goes fast. Afterward, kids are invited to stick around for a meet and greet photo op with the Easter Bunny himself. If the weather is bad, the event will be held at Sheridan High School instead.

Bring the dog along, because when the kids are done, it will be the pooch's turn. “Easter Egg Huntin' With the Pooch” starts at 11 a.m. All leashed and well-behaved dogs can meet at Madia Field, which is just west of Thorne-Rider Park, to sniff out doggie appropriate Easter prizes. Note: the Easter Bunny will not attend the dogs' egg hunt, citing safety reasons for his absence.

Sheridan Manor's hunt starts Saturday morning at 10, and accepts kids up to age 10. If the weather is bad, this hunt will happen inside.

The Vertical Church will have inflatables, music, face painting, egg races and prizes. Kids age 0-2 hunt at 10:30 a.m., ages 3-5 start at 11, ages 6-8 go at 11:30, and ages 9-12 hunt at noon.

Tongue River Valley Community Center is hosting their hunt in Dayton at the Scott Bicentennial Park at 10 Saturday morning.

Grace Anglican Church welcomes kids 11 and under at 11:30 Saturday morning to find more than 2,000 candy and toy-filled eggs, rain or shine. Free hot dogs will be served after the hunt.

Wal-Mart has two hunts planned. The first is for ages 0-6 and starts at 1 p.m. Kids ages 7-12 can meet at 1:30. Hunters at this event should keep an eye open for the one golden egg. Both hunts will take place in back of the Wal-Mart building.

If you're attending one or several of the egg hunts in the community, don't forget to B.Y.O.B—bring your own basket!
