3 Charged In Wyoming Bull Rider Death

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) - Three men accused of supplying drugs that may have led to the death of a Wyoming bull rider have been charged in federal court with conspiracy to distribute cocaine or heroin.
Twenty-year-old Kyle Walla, 22-year-old Joel D. Murdoch, and 26-year-old Rhett T. Epler were charged Friday in federal court in Cheyenne. The three were being held in federal custody without bond. Bryan Guthrie of Cheyenne died Dec. 2 at age 21. Guthrie was ranked as high as third in bull riding in January in the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association but was knocked out of competition with a leg injury in March.
Laramie County Coroner Marty Luna says his office has not determined a cause of death for Guthrie and is waiting for toxicology reports. Assistant U.S. attorney L. Robert Murray declined to discuss specifics of the case because it is an ongoing investigation.
A hearing is scheduled for Tuesday to determine whether there is enough evidence to send the case to trial.

Bull Rider Death

That's to bad that guys in rodeo have to get into drugs or drink to ride. Seen it done way to many time in the parking lots. As a bull rider my self. I think you should only ride if it's in your heart. You should never need drugs or to get drunk to get on. Heart and balls. In bull riding fear can come up on you hard. Lots of people need something to cover that fear of death. It could be just your buddies and your heart pushing you to give it your all. Finding god more in your life and also needing to have drugs to take over that fear. It's really to bad that we lost another family member in rodeo. I don't know Bryan Guthrie. He still is a family member no matter what. I send my love to his family but you most under stand that this sounds a lot like his choice to take the drugs. Right? It's my choice to get on a bull. If I die I don't think the stock contractor, our any one should get charged. That's a bunch of bull. It was a choice. I don't know the guys that are getting charged but that's not right. If they held him down and did it that's one thing. It was a choice! If some on give you something you don't have to take. Come now! We might be a little crazy or a different breed but we all know right from dumb! So take this as a reminder for any sport. Keep after your kids. Show them how you can still be #1 in a sport with out drugs or drinking. Even tho most of the number ones any more are one drugs. Please show them that they don't need to be a number in the ground. Play the sport with your heart and be a number on the board.
