Next year's Sheridan WYO Rodeo queen is Shayla Conner.

The queen and princesses, chosen in the pageant held at the end of June, were announced in the first-ever Queen's Brunch and Awards Ceremony held Thursday at The Hub on Smith Street.

Conner said she had an example to follow in her pursuit of the queen's title.

Conner said that was in 1958.

Conner said she went into the competition with the idea of doing her best, and she was really happy about her performance.

Remaining rodeo royals for next year are Grace VanDyke, junior princess; Jentry Reid, princess; and Hannah Jost, senior princess. The official crowning will be Saturday night during the last performance of the Sheridan WYO Rodeo.

Mary Ann Bledsoe, who's a member of the royalty board, said the brunch, in addition to announcing next year's royalty, was to honor the royalty of this year's rodeo and recognize visiting royalty from elsewhere in Wyoming and other states. Past rodeo queens also attended and were recognized.

Bledsoe explained the reasoning behind the event.

Other awards were also presented to those who competed in last month's pageant, including honors for congeniality, sportsmanship, knowledge, personality and a “Rhinestone Cowboy” award to the flashiest girl in the pageant.

here was also a peoples' choice award, chosen by members of the audience during the pageant. Conner was named the winner of that.

Over 100 people attended the event.
