SHS Prom Prep

Posted in

Prom preparations are underway in the small gym at the Sheridan High School. Yes, it is that time of year again - time for the prom. From this sneak preview it has all the makings to be the "World's Greatest Prom" under the big top. I'll say no more except that the Grand March will begin at 7:00 pm Saturday, May 5th in the main gym.

Follow The Leader

In a pond near Big Horn on Monday afternoon follow the leader appeared to be the lesson of the day. The five young goslings were showing off their skills as mom led the clutch with dad bringing up the rear. These five goslings are only days old. At the age of 1-2 days they can walk, swim, feed and even dive. One even started to "swim away from home" only to be rounded up by mom.

Surveying a Future Building Site?

On the last day of April this robin, perhaps a male, may be scouting out a May nest building site. Robins are one of our earliest birds to nest. The male arrives first and picks out an area an acre in size. When the females arrive and join their mates the final size of the mating area is reduced to about 1/3 of an acre.

"Grazing in the Grass"

To some folks "Grazing in the Grass" is a single that hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1968 or was in the soundtrack of "The Lion King 1 1/2" in 2004 but to this buffalo in the elk pasture above Kendrick Park it is a way of life in 2012. It doesn't seem to mind the overcast sky and rainy conditions that have dampened the spirits of some this weekend.

Crossing the Line

The wind driven rain couldn't wash the white line off Scott Field allowing the official to see the ball Cheyenne East's goalie Dalton Hass has in his left arm cross over the goal line for the Sheridan Bronc score.

Number 1 Stomps All Over Number 2

Number 1 definitely beats number 2 as the #1 ranked Sheridan Broncs stomped all over the #2 Cheyenne Central Indians at Homer Scott Field Friday evening. The windy, cold conditions only seemed to help the Broncs who jumped on the scoreboard 7-minutes into the game on a penalty kick by Hunter Reece - follow the ball in this 7-photo collage.

TR's Fallon Lewis; Now an All-American

Sheridan College sophomore Fallon Lewis, a Tongue River High School graduate, is now a National Junior College Athletic Association All-American bound for the University of Wyoming Cowgirl basketball team.

Deer Meet Killdeer

Two varieties of deer were enjoying rain washed grass on Friday morning. The two killdeer birds didn't seem bothered at all by the two white tail deer grazing near by on the lush, wet green grass - wet from the April showers that arrived in the Sheridan area and that are expected to last through the weekend.

On Wednesday afternoon Candice Swanson and Angela Lockard from Volunteers of America were immersed among the abundance of colorful flowers at Landon's Greenhouse & Nursery. The two were carefully selecting geraniums to enhance the VOA campus in preparation for the dedication of the Chip Garber Greenhouse set for Saturday at 11:00am.
