February 9th

Johnson County Weekend High School Sports Preview

This weekend's Johnson County high school sports contests got an early start as Buffalo's boys and girls' JV basketball teams played at Kaycee Tuesday night.
Buffalo's JV boys downed Kaycee's varsity 59-56, while the Buffalo girls' JV team fell to Kaycee 48-26.
The Bison boys' teams will play at Rawlins on Friday, with game times at 4, 5:30 and 7.
The Lady Bison will host Rawlins on Friday, with games at 4, 5:30 and 7 as well.
The Bison boys' swim team will be at the Conference meet in Rawlins both Friday and Saturday.

BRONC WRESTLING - The Sheridan Bronc wrestlers will close out the regular season hosting Gillette in a dual tonight.

The Broncs and Camels are both 4-0 in conference duals and tonight's matches will decide the conference regular season title.

Varsity matches are scheduled to get underway tomorrow night at 7:00 in the small gym at Sheridan high school.

BRONC / LADY BRONC HOOPS - The Sheridan high school basketball play Laramie and at Cheyenne South this week. The Lady Broncs host the Broncs will be on the road.

Bison Swimmers Have Another Great Weekend

The Buffalo Bison boys' swim team geared up for the conference meet this past weekend by beating Powell and finishing seventh at the Gillette Invite.
Friday the boys hosted Powell, beating them 117-58.
Coach Ron Chapin said, “We started the meet taking first and second in the medley relay. This set the tone for the rest of the meet. We had some season-best times by Nate Holt, Neil Medders, Randy Olsen, Jaren Olsen, Hunter Cardinal and Timothy Cohoon.”

BRONC WRESTLING - The Sheridan Bronc wrestlers will close out the regular season hosting Gillette in a dual tomorrow night.

The Broncs have made a dramatic turn this season going unbeaten in conference duals and placing high at several tournaments, head coach Scott Cleland talks about the turn around.

The Broncs and Camels are both 4-0 in conference duals and Cleland says they are expecting a great dual tomorrow night.


KAYLA WOODWARD - Sheridan's Kayla Woodward was named the MWC player of the week for her play last week and won the award for the second time this season.

She has made quite a splash in her freshmen season with the Cowgirls and Head coach Joe Legerski says Woodward has really made the move up into Division One basketball.

GENERALS / LADY GENERALS HOOPS - Sheridan college Generals and Lady Generals are both coming off victories over Northwest college Lady Generals Head coach Frank McCarthy.

Pole Creek Challenge Results From Saturday

This year's Powder Pass Nordic Club's Pole Creek Challenge was a success, according to information provided by the group.
Sixty-two participants took part in the 5K and 10K races in both skate ski and classic Nordic skiing.
The race netted roughly $360 from entry fees and donations which will go back into helping pay for maintenance and grooming at the Nordic Areas west of Buffalo.
The top finishes for the skate skiers were Aaron Kessler in 19 minutes, 33 seconds; Sarah Nicholas, 23:30; and Lorajane Kessler, 45:36. They were the only three that participated in the skate ski event.

This is the Sheridan Rampage, who won the 6th grade boys' division of the February Frenzy on Feb. 5, 2012, in Bozeman, MT.

They defeated the Bozeman Bulls in the championship game by a score of 38-14.

BRONC / LADY BRONC HOOPS - The Sheridan high school basketball teams split their games with Gillette and have more conference play this week with Laramie and Cheyenne South.

The Lady Broncs will begin the second round of conference play this week with a conference record of 3-2 and 13-4 overall.

They lost at home against Gillette 55-51 Friday Head coach Sean Yeager says two pretty good teams played a tough game.

And he says several of their underclassmen got their first taste of what the rivalry is all about.

Weekend High School Sports Results From Johnson County

Johnson County's high school athletes had a busy weekend and most teams fared very well.
In basketball, the Bison boys traveled to Wheatland on Friday and downed the Bulldogs 55-53 in overtime.
Saturday they hosted Thermopolis at BHS and beat the Bobcats 61-33 to improve to 10-6 for the year.
The Lady Bison fell to the Lady Bulldogs 47-35 on Friday and traveled to Thermopolis on Saturday where they dropped the game to the Lady Bobcats 40-26. Their record now stands at 6-10 on the year.
The Kaycee Buckaroos mauled Hulett on Friday 76-26 and beat Upton 50-44 on Saturday.
