Concluding the first 3rd-Thursday Street Festival of the year was the "Fire in the Sky" finale at 9:00 pm. What a magnificent conclusion to a perfect evening on Main Street in Sheridan. This view is looking down Grinnell Plaza toward Main Street with City Hall in the center and the show above.

Fire Destroys Playground Equipment at Sagebrush

Sheridan Fire-Rescue and the Sheridan Police Department responded to a report of a fire early Thursday morning at Sagebrush Elementary School in Sheridan. Sheridan Fire Marshal Brian Songer.

Summer is here!

Summer officially started in the Sheridan area at 5:09 pm Wednesday - and this is what it looked like just an hour later. While most of the nation was sweltering it out with temperatures above 90 we peaked out at 78 degrees. Temperatures are headed up however, with Thursday expected to hit 84, Friday 90, Saturday 91 and - get ready for this - 102 on Sunday.

Young Riders During the National Anthem

On Saturday morning at precisely 9:30 flag bearers Katie Bailey, with the National Flag, and Reata Cook, with the State Flag, led many of the participants of the 2012 Young Riders Rodeo into the arena to start the days events with the playing of the National Anthem. The line of participants was so long it had to be split into two parts in order to be shown here.

Larger Parking Lot for Big Horn Campus

Now that the new elementary school building is up and the old is down Groathouse Construction Inc. is busy tearing up the old and putting down a new parking lot for the Big Horn Campus. The addition of more parking spaces will be a welcome addition to the campus as will the landscaping when it is finished in August.

Back to Work after a Pancake Breakfast?

Fire Chief Caleb, age 4 and his brother Fire Chief Isaac, age 6 of Big Horn appear to be headed back to work after their breakfast of orange juice, pancakes and sausage at Saturday's Big Horn Volunteer Fire Department's Annual Pancake Breakfast. There was a large turnout and lots of conversation at the popular annual event.

Whitney Simmons Wins Senior Barrels

On the final barrel race of the day Whitney Simmons of Decker ran a quick 18.04 to win Senior Barrels on Saturday afternoon. Whitney was participating in the Senior events (ages 14-18) of the Young Riders Rodeo held at the Sheridan County Fairgrounds. There was something for everyone up to the age of 18.

Soldier Ridge Trail Construction Underway

Construction has begun on the Soldier Ridge Trail, a single track, publicly accessible non-motorized trail just west of Sheridan City limits. A crew with the Montana Conservation Corps has completed 1.2 miles of the 4.5 mile trail.

Jordan Smith Wins Texaco Country Showdown

The road to stardom started at the Best Western Sheridan Center for Jordan Smith of Gillette. Jordan competed in the first leg of the Texaco Country Showdown and came out on top in the local competition held Friday evening. He will move on in the competition at the Montana State Fair in Great Falls on July 27th and 28th.

1st Sheridan Cowgirls Rodeo of the Season (updated)

MaKenna Balkenbush kicked off the 1st Sheridan Cowgirls Association Rodeo of the season with a speedy run in Senior Poles on Thursday evening. MaKenna's time of 20.77 was the best of the evening in Senior Poles. The top official times are here: http://www.sheridanmedia.com/spo...

Sheridan P.D. Responds to Explosive Device

The Sheridan Police Department Thursday responded to a report of a possible explosive device in the 600 block of Monte Vista. Upon arrival, officers found two homemade M-80 sized firecrackers that had been found in the street. A media release issued by the P.D.

Hungry for Pancakes?

The Big Horn Volunteer Fire Department Annual Pancake Breakfast will be held right here on the concrete apron and inside, just beyond the four overhead doors, this Saturday. It is free but donations will be accepted and you can even enter the raffle for a 37" Flat Screen TV. Everyone is welcome so bring your appetite and show up between 7 & 10 am.

Guernsey Fire 95% Contained

Firefighters work to extinguish the forest fire in Guernsey State Park in Southeast Wyoming. The fire is now 95 percent contained.

Accident Scene near the Old Woodland Park School

Around 2:00 pm Wednesday this Chevrolet Cavalier apparently tangled with a cement truck and ended up upside down on the west side of Coffeen Avenue near the 5100 block. Two Rocky Mountain Ambulances were on the scene and at least one person was seen being loaded into one of the ambulances. Also responding to the accident were the highway patrol and unit 205 from the Sheridan Rural Fire Department.

Poppies Galore South of Big Horn

If you're headed out to see the exhibits at the Bradford Brinton Memorial & Museum make sure you take the lower road (Brinton Road CR103) as you approach Big Horn if you want to see the poppies at the Historic Gallatin Ranch. The Gallatin Ranch is at 221 Brinton Road and close to the Bradford Brinton but you'll miss it if you stay on Highway 335 when you approach Big Horn.
