In addition to snow removal from the city streets the City of Sheridan crews also clean 11-miles of pathways - the clearing of Hume Draw just off of Highland Avenue is shown here. "Spoonful of Sugar" on the WYO Stage

Thursday evening the second set of auditions for the 50th Annual "Stars of Tomorrow" Talent Contest was held at the WYO Theater. Among the talent on the stage were Heather Heath, Brynn Batemen and Tate Batemen who performed "Spoonful of Sugar" from the Walt Disney film Mary Poppins. Auditions are now over with the big performance scheduled for 7:00 pm, Friday, March 4th at the WYO Theater.

You have until February 28th to see"Wild Life and Rural Scenes Art in Multi-Medium" - an Art Exhibit by Les Jayne - that is on display on the Mezzanine of the Sheridan County Fulmer Public Library. Relief Carvings such as this one of the Double Rafter Ranch are on display. In addition to tree bark carving Les also does relief carving, pyrography, scrolling and canes.

Sleeping on the WYO Stage

Tuesday night 10-year old Kasey Price woke up on the stage of the WYO theater, performed his 2011 "Stars of Tomorrow" Talent Contest audition after which he said, " I am in bed Mom!" The K-5 auditions were Tuesday while grades 6-12 will audition on Thursday at 7:00 pm. The performance of the 50th Annual Sheridan Kiwanis Club contest will be held on Friday, March 4th.

Lu Lu's Cafe on the City Council's Agenda

Lu Lu's Cafe at 118 N. Brooks is applying for a restaurant liquor license at the City Council's meeting Monday evening. The Cafe is currently being remodeled with Lynn Sedar and her partner Andy Ayres hoping to reopen for Valentine's Dinner, complete with a restaurant liquor license, on February 12th.

Saturday afternoon Sheridan's starting five, Noelle Golinvaux, Brianna Smith, Kayla Woodward, Stephany Sessions and Hailey Ligocki, hit the hardwood against the Indians from Cheyenne Central. Hopefully you won't encounter blowing snow after the Super Bowl reminiscent of 24-hours earlier. The intersection of Coffeen Avenue and Whittier Street at 7:00 pm Saturday, as viewed from in front of Safeway where shoppers were stocking up with party snacks, was one of blowing snow.

Sheridan's Senior Swimmers Recognized

Sheridan High School Senior swimmers Sam Richter, Taylor Speigelberg and Nick Groshart, between swim coaches Larry White and Rick Oatts, were recognized during the last home swim meet of the season Friday afternoon. Sheridan bested the dual meet with Cody 99 to 81 and Riverton 96 to 80.

A revisit to the popular Linden Hill sledding area reveals the addition of hay bales along the fence at the bottom of the hill. With warmer weather and the weekend approaching sledders that take to the hill will now have a safety barrier along the fence when they reach the bottom of the hill.

Beauty on a Cold Day

Although Sheridanites take it for granted, 100-years ago the Trail End was still under construction. Started in 1908, the 13,748 square foot mansion was not occupied until July of 1913. It took about 1-ton of coal each winter day to heat the building - perhaps more on a day like today when February ushered in a -18 degree low temperature. The Camels Smoke the Broncs

In front of a standing room only crowd on Thursday evening Sheridan's Raith Durham hits a free-throw in the first period of play to draw the Broncs within 9 against the Campbell County Camels. The 2nd ranked Camels were just too much for the 3rd ranked Sheridan Broncs who came up on the short end of the 54-41final score.

Two for Two

Sheridan's Heavy Weight Wrestler Alex Marty makes it two on the day as he wins both of his matches on Saturday. In this match Alex pinned John Powers of Cheyenne East in a time of 1:56. Overall Sheridan came came very close in both of the day's meets - with Cheyenne Central is was 36-42 and Cheyenne East 36-42. Lacking a wrestler in the 103 weight class cost Sheridan 6-points in each meet.

In addition to working on 20-miles of street repair over the next two to five years perhaps the City of Sheridan could work with WYDOT and finally get street signs posted on perhaps what is the only intersection in the city without signs. How about Sugar Lane and Coffeen Avenue as sign names to act as visual aids and thus help visitors to our area?

Sheridan Scenic Character Plan Workshop

About forty participated in an interactive presentation regarding the Sheridan landscape Wednesday evening in the Watt's Center at Sheridan College. Participant responses will help guide in the development of policy and strategy for the preservation and enhancement of the scenic views, especially into and out of the main corridors of Sheridan.
