Prom 2012 - One Night Only

The young, being young at heart and kicking up their heels at Prom 2012 Saturday night. If I counted correctly there were 271 students involved in the grand march and many more who helped the prom run smoothly, i.e. Co-sponsors LaDonna Leibrich, Heidi Richins and Junior Class President Jin Kim along with countless others. Now let's see what next year's junior class can do.

Prior to the crowning and announcement of royalty, 271 students entered the filled to capacity main gymnasium, mostly as couples, to proudly parade before the audience before taking their seats in the center.

The Kick & Score by Hartley Stewart

After trading goals in the last 11 minutes of play it came down to this last 30-second kick by Sheridan's Senior Hartley Stewart to seal the deal and cap off a 12-1-2 regular season for the Lady Broncs. The Lady Broncs downed the Lady Camels 2 to 1 in a scoreless game until the last 11-minutes that was filled with fireworks.

Broncs over Camels in the Regular Season Finale

In the last regular season soccer game the #1 ranked Sheridan Broncs got on the scoreboard first with this kick by Senior Hunter Reece, on his 18th birthday, into the back of the net near the 27:30 mark of the first half on Friday afternoon. In addition to being the last game on Scott Field for the 15 Bronc Seniors it was also Senior night.

Shovels, hoes and rakes await the gardeners of the "Victory Garden" at Fort Mackenzie (VA Hospital). No one was working their plot on Thursday afternoon but Stella Montano reports that she and Clarence have their onion sets and potatoes in the ground in Plot C. There are 18 assigned plots according to the plot plan seen in the lower right corner of the photo.

Making Way for the New @ the Welch Cancer Center

The Welch Cancer Center Patient Entrance door that has opened to welcome many since 1993 will soon fall prey to the jaws of the John Deere excavator of Sheridan's SSR Construction, Inc. - perhaps before the sun sets on Wednesday. Hospital oncologists have started treating patients in the new facility and it is time to tear down the old digs to make room for Phase 2 construction.

Soon-to-be "Hardrockers"

Six Sheridan Bronc Soccer players are soon to be Hardrockers as in South Dakota School of Mines & Technology Hardrockers. Cody Schellinger who graduated from SHS in 2010 will be joined by SHS 2012 graduates-to-be Hunter Reece, Sam LeTempt, Cole Smith, Gabe Dahmke and Braydon Drell in attending school and playing soccer for the School of Mines.

The Dynamic Brother/Sister Rotellini Twosome

It must "run" in the family as this brother/sister pair paired up for a pair of distance running wins at the Wyoming Track Classic held in Casper on Monday afternoon.

SHS Prom Prep

Posted in

Prom preparations are underway in the small gym at the Sheridan High School. Yes, it is that time of year again - time for the prom. From this sneak preview it has all the makings to be the "World's Greatest Prom" under the big top. I'll say no more except that the Grand March will begin at 7:00 pm Saturday, May 5th in the main gym.

Follow The Leader

In a pond near Big Horn on Monday afternoon follow the leader appeared to be the lesson of the day. The five young goslings were showing off their skills as mom led the clutch with dad bringing up the rear. These five goslings are only days old. At the age of 1-2 days they can walk, swim, feed and even dive. One even started to "swim away from home" only to be rounded up by mom.

Surveying a Future Building Site?

On the last day of April this robin, perhaps a male, may be scouting out a May nest building site. Robins are one of our earliest birds to nest. The male arrives first and picks out an area an acre in size. When the females arrive and join their mates the final size of the mating area is reduced to about 1/3 of an acre.

A Celebration at Ucross

The Ucross Foundation held an Arbor Day Celebration over the weekend that included an early birthday party for the founder of Ucross, and a special book signing. Sheridan Media's Ron Richter was there and has the story.

"Grazing in the Grass"

To some folks "Grazing in the Grass" is a single that hit #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1968 or was in the soundtrack of "The Lion King 1 1/2" in 2004 but to this buffalo in the elk pasture above Kendrick Park it is a way of life in 2012. It doesn't seem to mind the overcast sky and rainy conditions that have dampened the spirits of some this weekend.
