NATIONAL SIGNING DAY - Today is national college signing day for high school athletes. It's the first day high school students can officially announce their intentions to play in college. Sheridan High School senior Austin Woodward has made his decision to walk on to play football at the University of Wyoming.
This past season, Woodward led the Broncs to an 11-1 record and a State Title win over Cheyenne Central. He was selected All-State, and to the Wyoming “Super 25” team, and was named Wyoming's Gatorade "Player of the Year." Currently Austin is in the middle of his senior season with the Bronc basketball team, and is happy to finally have this decision behind him.
SHERIDAN COLLEGE BASKETBALL - The Sheridan College basketball teams had no problem posting North Sub-Region victories last night over Little Big Horn Community College.
As expected, they both blew out the Rams, with the Lady Generals winning 80-54. Head coach Frank McCarthy says it was a good solid victory. They play their next game on the road Friday at Eastern Wyoming. McCarthy says they expect a good challenge in Torrington.
The Generals beat the Rams by 60 two weeks ago, and they gave them another “beat down” last night, winning by 65 -- 115-50 was the final. Head coach Steve Smiley says the Generals did a good job of staying interested as the night moved along.
Smiley says they know the competition will be a lot tougher when they play at Eastern Wyoming Friday and at Laramie County Saturday.
UW BASKETBALL - The Wyoming Cowgirls played UNLV last night in Las Vegas and lost 62-56. They fall to 13-7 overall and 4-4 in Mountain West Conference play. Next up is a home game with CSU Saturday night.
The Cowboys play UNLV in the AA tonight. You can hear the game live on AM 1410 KWYO and 95.9 FM; tip-off is at 8:00. Saturday night the Cowboys play at Colorado State.
BIG HORN BASKETBALL - The Big Horn Rams and Lady Rams host games with Moorcroft Friday.
TONGUE RIVER BASKETBALL - The Tongue River Eagles and Lady Eagles host games with Sundance Friday. Saturday, the Lady Eagles host Rocky Mountain. The Eagles play at Rocky over in Byron in the Big Horn Basin.
BRONC WRESTLING - The Sheridan Bronc wrestlers dual Riverton on the road Friday and compete in the Riverton Invitational Saturday.
BRONC SWIMMING AND DIVING - The Bronc swimmers and divers host duals with Riverton and Cody Friday, and end their regular season Saturday at an Invitational in Gillette.
SHERIDAN HIGH SCHOOL INDOOR TRACK - The Sheridan High School indoor track teams will compete at a meet in Chadron, Nebraska Saturday. They do have a schedule change for next week -- instead of going to the University of Wyoming on the 12th, they will go to a meet hosted by Cheyenne Central on the 13th.
