Troopers win opener at state / Outdoor Volleyball Tourney Saturday / Rockies win / Broncos open exhibition football in a week
TROOPER BASEBALL - The Sheridan Troopers opened the state "AA" American Legion baseball tournament in Gillette last night and beat Jackson 12-10 to advance in the winner's bracket.
They will play number one seed Gillette at 7:00 tonight the other game today has Cheyenne taking on Casper at 4:00.
If they win tonight the Troops will move into the championship game, if they lose they will play the loser of today's game between Cheyenne and Casper tomorrow afternoon.
"A" STATE BASEBALL - The first day of the "A" state American Legion tournament in Laramie was rained out yesterday they will begin first round games today.
OUTDOOR VOLLEYBALL - Saturday the "Summer Slam" 3 on 3 volleyball tournament will be played outdoors at the YMCA, proceeds go to the new "Weston Johnson" scholarship at Sheridan high school.
The former Wyoming Cowboy and Bronc assistant football coach past away this past winter after a long battle with melanoma.
To honor Weston the volleyball tournament was organized last summer and will continue Saturday one of the organizers is Bronc assistant football coach DJ Dearcorn.
And DJ says it's a great event for all skill levels. Play begins Saturday morning at 8:00 and will run all day.
ROCKIES BASEBALL - The Colorado Rockies beat the Chicago Cubs last night 6-4 in 10 innings they close out the series in Chicago this afternoon , you can hear the game on 87.7 FM ESPN radio, the first pitch is scheduled for 12:20.
Following the series in Chicago the Rockies head for Detroit for three weekend games with the Tigers.
BRONCO FOOTBALL - The Denver Broncos open up their exhibition schedule next Thursday at home against Seattle, all Bronco games this season can be heard live on 87.7 FM ESPN radio.
The exhibition with Seattle is being played in Denver the Bronco pregame show will start at 5:05 with kickoff at 7:00.
FALL HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS - Reminder for all high school and Jr high fall athletes sports physicals need to be complete before they can practice.
The Sheridan Bronc football team opens preseason camp Monday, August 11th the rest of state's football teams and all other fall sports begin practice Monday, August 18th.
